Summary

An Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling series。

Kate Marshall’s investigation into a journalist’s disappearance sends her down an unexpectedly twisted path in a riveting thriller by the author of Shadow Sands。

Kate Marshall’s fledgling PI agency takes off when she and her partner, Tristan Harper, are hired for their first big case。 It’s a cold one。 Twelve years before, journalist Joanna Duncan disappeared after exposing a political scandal。 Most people have moved on。 Joanna’s mother refuses to let go。

When Kate and Tristan gain access to the original case files, they revisit the same suspects and follow the same leads―but not to the same dead ends。 Among Joanna’s personal effects, Kate discovers the names of two young men who also vanished without a trace。

As she connects the last days of three missing persons, Kate realizes that Joanna may have been onto something far more sinister than anyone first believed: the identity of a serial killer hiding in plain sight。 The closer Kate comes to finding him, the darker it’s going to get。

This is the first book of the Kate and Tristan series I have read and it is thoroughly enjoyable。 Set in Devon and Somerset UK。 Always nice to find a new author and I will now need to find some in the back catalog。

I so wanted to gain a growing love for this series but felt an irritating sense of this being "reading for dummies" as characters performed activities which were then constantly explained as if the reader couldn't interpret for themselves。 Then there was the narrative's journey where amateur sleuths put together a series of "coincidences", contact and speak to an international array of witnesses from the cold case some of whom handily link into the backstory of previous books, a seamless link up I so wanted to gain a growing love for this series but felt an irritating sense of this being "reading for dummies" as characters performed activities which were then constantly explained as if the reader couldn't interpret for themselves。 Then there was the narrative's journey where amateur sleuths put together a series of "coincidences", contact and speak to an international array of witnesses from the cold case some of whom handily link into the backstory of previous books, a seamless link up with the police so they were working in tandem etc。I almost stopped reading as our detective agency wannabees from Devon drove to Somerset where "neither of them had been" before。。。。Really? There is only a very small part of Devon that does not border Devon。 Stupidities like this littered the story。No more of this series for me 。。。more

I truly love this series。 Likable main characters, atmospheric setting, old school detective work。 I loved that there were main possibilities for how it could’ve ended。 Kept you guessing。

Het is inmiddels wel een beetje uitgemolken。 Goed verhaal。 Maar te duidelijk plot。

Private detectives solve a cold case and turn up a serial killer。 This is a good novel to enjoy suspense and just that right amount of fear。

Darkness Falls, Great ReadI love trying to figure out the ending before Kate and Tristan do。 I recommend this to anyone that wants to kick back and emerge themselves in some suspense。 The character development is excellent。 I feel I know these people and I care where life's events take them。 Darkness Falls, Great ReadI love trying to figure out the ending before Kate and Tristan do。 I recommend this to anyone that wants to kick back and emerge themselves in some suspense。 The character development is excellent。 I feel I know these people and I care where life's events take them。 。。。more

One of his bestI love all of Robert Bryndzas books, especially love the Kate Marshall series and must say, I think this would be one of his best。 Totally full of great twists and turns, each time you thought you had it worked out a bit, you were proved wrong。 I really loved that I couldn’t see where this was going and had to keep reading to see what would happen! 。。。more

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complientary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion。This is the third book in the Kate Marshall series, this could easily be read as a stand alone book, but the series is so good, I recommend reading the previous two books。 I always enjoy this author's books, they are a great mix of investigative thriller and intrigue。Kate has opened a private detective agency with her partner Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complientary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion。This is the third book in the Kate Marshall series, this could easily be read as a stand alone book, but the series is so good, I recommend reading the previous two books。 I always enjoy this author's books, they are a great mix of investigative thriller and intrigue。Kate has opened a private detective agency with her partner, Tristan; she really needs this top take off as she has put everything she has into it。 Her son is coming to help out with the campground for the summer and she is looking forward to spending time with him and getting to know him as an adult。 Kate is contacted by a woman whose daughter went missing 12 years prior, the police have no leads and consider the case inactive。 Kate and Trstan meet with her and agree to take the case。 The case goes from cold, to confusing to red hot; the police now want to take the case back and investigate as Kate and Tristan may have unearted a serial killer。Great story, lots of twists and I enjoy Kate's story, would love to learn more about her and Tristan's lives in future books。 。。。more

Worth it though! The story is based on a Political Scandal, A Cold Case, and a Serial Killer, and covers many topical issues of the time。 Robert does not shy away from difficult topics。This is Book 3 of the Kate Marshall Series (Nine Elms and Shadow Sands being books 1 & 2 - both excellent as well) and I enjoyed being immersed back in Kate's story。 Kate's growth as a character is engaging, both personally and professionally。 She is an excellent protagonist and the relationship she has with Tristan, he partner in the Detective Agency is building nicely。 Robert has a brilliant way of portraying his characters, flaws an all, and Kate and Tristan are a very likeable duo。I can't wait for more!Thank you to Netgalley, and Little Brown Book Group UK for a copy of the book, at my request, in return for an honest review。 I loved it so much I have also purchased the audiobook。 。。。more

Book three of the popular Kate Marshall series, picks up nicely where the previous two books left off, giving the reader another exceptional story to savor。 Kate Marshall is a former cop, and she had an encounter with a serial killer years before, making her life definitely without a dull moment。 She finds more of the same here, when a mother comes to her for her help, in possibly finding closure to the disappearance of her daughter Joanna Duncan a dozen years earlier。 Joanna was a journalist, a Book three of the popular Kate Marshall series, picks up nicely where the previous two books left off, giving the reader another exceptional story to savor。 Kate Marshall is a former cop, and she had an encounter with a serial killer years before, making her life definitely without a dull moment。 She finds more of the same here, when a mother comes to her for her help, in possibly finding closure to the disappearance of her daughter Joanna Duncan a dozen years earlier。 Joanna was a journalist, and she had blown the lid off a political scandal。 It was obvious she would never leave of her own volition, because she was recently married and had a happy life。 At the time, the police had virtually nothing to go on, so it will be a difficult task for Kate。 Kate and her partner Tristan Harper vow to do their best, as this is their first major assignment。 They do not hold back, looking at all angles, suspects and motives for Joanna’s disappearance。 Bev Ellis, Joanna’s mother, has found her life in shambles and all she wants is to put this behind her, hopefully with some resolution for her peace of mind。 At the same time, there have been the murders of several men by a most sadistic killer。 The big question for the moment is, could these murders somehow be connected to the disappearance of Joanna? Kate and Tristan to find similarities and connecting threads, making their task all the more challenging, and they know that time may be running out on various fronts。 If the killer knows that they are being investigated, who knows what they might do in retaliation for getting too close to the truth? As we discover the identity of the killer, we learn that their life was filled with pain and suffering, and their motives are retaliatory against innocent victims。 The book works well because Kate and Tristan play nicely off one another, making them doggedly determined to find answers as time seems to be running out。 DARKNESS FALLS is definitely a superior crime thriller, with lots of twists and turns, and the sort of pacing that makes reading the book pure pleasure to read。 。。。more
